Abstract. In active structures applications the fluid-structure interaction is often an important problem, especially for the problem of vibration and noise reduction. The impact of fluid loading on the vibration of a structure is essential in submarine applications. For fluid-gas coupling, the fluid loading is often neglected, but this neglection can result in poor performance of vibration and noise~control. This paper is based on the Master's Thesis of the author which was written at the MIT Active Materials and Structures Laboratory in conjunction with the Institut für Aerodynamik und Gasdynamik (IAG) at the University of Stuttgart.
